Glycine is an amino acid that can be produced endogenously by the body. It is a structural component of many proteins, including collagen, creatine, and purine nucleotides. In plasma, glycine represents approximately 11.5% of the total amino acid content. It has been studied in marathon runners for its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, as well as its potential effects on physical performance and muscle development. Glycine has also been reported to play a role in the prevention of lung injury, gastric ulcers, and in conditions involving hemorrhagic and endotoxic shock.
