NAD+ Description1-6

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD⁺) is essential for metabolic function in the body, participating in more than 500 enzymatic reactions that support overall health. NAD⁺ plays a key role in energy metabolism, mitochondrial homeostasis, and processes related to cellular survival and death. It also serves as a mediator of important cellular functions, including DNA maintenance and repair. NAD⁺ levels naturally decline with age. Restoring NAD⁺ levels may help improve altered metabolic processes, reduce susceptibility to disease, and support longevity.

Potential benefits associated with increasing NAD⁺ levels include:

  • Improved cognitive function
  • Protection of brain tissue from neurodegenerative processes
  • Enhanced vascularization of blood vessels
  • Reduction in hepatic steatosis
  • Improved muscle strength and pancreatic function, including increased insulin secretion
  • Decreased inflammation

Mechanism of Action1-6

NAD+ is critical for metabolism and physiological function. It accepts electrons during metabolic reactions to become NADH (reduced form). NADH uses the electron to donate ot other molecules. This is important for ATP production in the body. This process occurs during glycolysis, fatty acid oxidation, and the TCA cycle. There is a continuous conversion of NAD+ to NADH in cells in the body which is critical for energy flow. NAD+ is also important for sirtuin regulation (DNA repair, inflammation processes, and fat metabolism). It is a substrate for  PARPs (poly (ADP-ribose) polymerases) (repair of damaged DNA), is important to prevent neurodegenerative processes.
