Radiance Facial Gel is a compounded topical formulation prepared with niacinamide, kojic acid and tranexamic acid to support healthy looking skin. The ingredients have been studied to inhibit skin pigmentation pathways and inflammatory processes and are commonly included together in compounded skin care preparations.
Niacinamide1-3
Niacinamide is a water-soluble form of vitamin B3 and is involved in cellular metabolic processes. Niacin and niacinamide are chemically related forms of vitamin B3 with minor structural differences. Topically, niacinamide has been shown to be helpful for acne vulgaris, melasma, psoriasis and aging skin. It has been shown to support the skin barrier, act as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and skin-brightening agent.
Kojic Acid 4,5
Kojic acid is an organic compound produced by several species of fungi, including Aspergillus flavus, A. oryzae, A. tamarii, and A. parasiticus. It was first isolated in 1907 and later introduced for commercial use in 1955. It is commonly used as a depigmenting agent. It is thought to have antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities in addition to its skin-lightening activity.
Tranexamic Acid6
Tranexamic acid has been used clinically the following indications: to decrease bleeding during surgery, during dental procedures, nose bleeds, gastrointestinal bleeding and bleeding for obstetrics patients. Recently, tranexamic acid has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may have the ability to suppress melanogenesis. It may provide benefits for patients with melasma, acne, rosacea, and urticaria.
Niacinamide1-3
Niacinamide has various mechanisms of activity to support skin health. Niacinamide is a precursor to the NAD(P) family of coenzymes. These coenzymes are important for metabolic activity in the skin. The reduced form, NAD(P)H, has antioxidant activity and works to neutralize free radicals. Niacinamide provides anti-inflammatory activity and decrease sebum excretion. It has been shown to improve acne vulgaris by affecting neutrophil chemotaxis and suppresses cytokine-mediated induction of nitric oxide synthase. In addition, niacinamide may improve the barrier function of the skin, may prevent photo immunosuppression and photocarcinogenesis, prevent loss of collagen in the dermal layer of the skin and improve the barrier function of the skin. Niacinamide may help with skin lines and wrinkles 1) by increasing collagen production or 2) by reducing the amount of dermal glycosaminoglycans that are seen with photodamaged or wrinkled skin. Niacinamide supports the barrier function of the skin by increasing the lipid and protein stratum corneum. This increase in lipid and protein decreases the trans-epidermal water loss and provides resistance to skin damage from damaging agents. Niacinamide also is thought to inhibit the transfer of melanin from the melanocytes to keratinocytes to decrease hyperpigmentation of skin.
Kojic Acid4,5
Kojic acid is thought to chelate copper. Copper is needed at the active site of the tyrosinase enzyme. This action inhibits the activity of the tyrosinase enzyme. The tyrosinase enzyme is needed for melanin production.
Tranexamic Acid6
Tranexamic acid blocks the activity between melanocytes and keratinocytes through inhibition of the plasminogen/plasmin system which decreases inflammatory mediators, arachidonic acid and prostaglandin. These mediators are melanocyte stimulators. Through this process it may decrease melanogenesis and decrease inflammation seen with rosacea and acne. It also may inhibit protease-activated receptor 2 activation by serine protease and calcium influx in keratinocytes, leading to improved permeability barrier function for rosacea patients.

Store at 20–25°C (68–77°F), in a cool, dry place, away from heat and direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Keep container tightly closed and out of reach of children.
